The Little Girl and the Cookie at Brisbane Airport

The Little Girl and the Cookie at Brisbane Airport

At Brisbane Airport, a woman was waiting in the lounge for her delayed flight back to Sydney. To pass the time, she bought a pack of cookies and a newspaper from a small shop.
She found a seat, opened the newspaper, and began to read. Absentmindedly, she opened the pack of cookies and ate one. Just then, a little girl—around six years old, with dark hair and wide eyes—sat down next to her and, without a word, reached over and took a cookie from the pack.
The woman was shocked. She glanced at the girl, annoyed, but said nothing.
She took another cookie. The girl took one too.
And so it continued—each time the woman grabbed a cookie, the girl took one as well.
Finally, there was just one cookie left. The woman waited to see what the girl would do. To her surprise, the girl smiled, broke the last cookie in half, and offered one piece to her.
The woman didn’t know whether to be offended or to laugh. She quietly accepted the half and returned to her newspaper.
When her flight was finally called, she gathered her things and walked to the gate, still fuming inside: “How rude. Kids these days have no manners.”
Once on board, she opened her bag to get her boarding pass... and froze.
Her unopened pack of cookies was still inside.
In that moment, she realized:
She had been eating the little girl’s cookies.
And yet the child never got angry. She never accused or scolded—she simply shared, and even offered the last piece with a smile.
